Former Olympian Alessio Boggiato of Italy retired from swimming yesterday after finishing fifth with the 4X50m medley relay at the short-course Italian championships in Ostia

ROME - Former Olympian Alessio Boggiato of Italy retired from swimming yesterday after finishing fifth with the 4X50m medley relay at the short-course Italian championships in Ostia (Rome).

Boggiatto, 30, won the gold medal at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, in the 400 metres individual medley.
