LARAMIE, WY - University of Wyoming head swimming and diving coach Tom Johnson has announced the hiring of Jane Bartee as assistant swimming coach at UW. Bartee will join Johnson’s staff on July 15, and her hiring is subject to UW Board of Trustee approval.

We really are raising the level of our coaching staff by hiring Jane, said Johnson. I couldn't be more happy with the kind of person she is and because of the experience she brings to our program. Jane has competed at an elite level both internationally and collegiately, and as a former academic and athletic All-American she will be a great example for our team.

Prior to accepting the position at Wyoming, Bartee had been the head coach at the TUSC Swim Club in Tuscaloosa, AL, for two years, as well as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Alabama. While a graduate assistant, she earned a masters degree in college sports administration from Alabama in 1998. Bartee earned her bachelors degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska in 1995.

A native of Australia, Bartee was an extremely successful swimmer herself. She was a seven-time NCAA All-American for her alma mater, Nebraska, from 1993-95 and was the Big 8 champion in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke for all three years. Bartee has been in the Top 20 in the world rankings, competed for the Australian National Team at the 1995 Pan Pacific Championships and had the number five ranked best all-time swim in the 100 meter backstroke in Australian history during 1997. A dedicated student, she was a three-time Academic All-American selection at Nebraska from 1994-96.

I am very excited to come out and coach at Wyoming, commented Bartee. I feel that I have a lot to offer the team because of my experiences in swimming, such as competing at the NCAA Nationals. Also active in the community, Bartee has coached numerous stroke clinics, volunteered for the Special Olympics and served as vice president of the Students in Higher Education Administration Program in 1998.

Her husband, Todd, will also be employed by UW, as he has accepted a position as an instructor within the College of Health Sciences.
