1998-07-26

On Saturday the FINA doping panel issued a ruling on the case of Michael Fibbens of Britain. They have suspended him from competing in "any national or international competition for a period of one year, until March 14, 1999."

Fibbens had tested positive at World Cup 5 in Sheffield for benzoylecgonine, a cocaine-like substance, after having won the 100 freestyle event in a time of 49.17.
