Australian Olympian Libby Trickett (nee Lenton) has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 28

Libby Trickett (nee Lenton)  has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 28.

The Asutralian swimmer, was a member of last year's Olympic quartet who won gol in the 400 metres freestyle relay.

She said: "There will always be a tinge of sadness to leave the sport that I love, but I have wonderful memories and experiences to draw upon in the future.

Trickett, already made a first retirement in 2009 but she was back in action few months later.

"I feel at peace with my decision and most importantly I feel that I am finally ready to take on the next adventure in my life."

"I'm so grateful to swimming for all that it has given me in my life."
