China's Sun Yang broke a ten-year 1500 metres freestyle world record in front of his home crowd at the Oriental Sports Center

SHANGHAI - China's Sun Yang broke a ten-year 1500 metres freestyle world record in front of his home crowd at the Oriental Sports Center.

Sun, 20, carved 42-hundredths of a second off the world record held by Australian Grant Hackett for ten years with a time of 14 minutes, 34.56 seconds.
