Felipe Alves Franca da Silva has won the 50 metres breaststroke at the world swimming championships tonight in Shanghai

SHANGHAI - Brazil's Felipe Alves Franca da Silva has won the 50 metres breaststroke at the world swimming championships tonight in Shanghai.

The Brazilian swimmer clocked a time of 27.01 seconds.

Italy's Fabio Scozzoli, the European champion for this event, claimed silver in a new national record time of 27.17. Third was the former world champion Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa with 27.19s.
