Ryan Lochte of United States won the men's 200 metres freestyle title ahead of Phelps and Biedermann

SHANGHAI - Ryan Lochte of United States won the men's 200 metres freestyle title at the world championships on Tuesday.

Lochte clocked 1:44.44 in the final to beat fellow-countryman Michael Phelps who claimed silver in 1:44.79.

Germany's Paul Biedermann, the world record holder for this event, won bronze in 1:44.88.

Korea's Park Tae-hwan, the new world champion for the 400m free, misses the podium by 4-hundreths of a second.
