SHANGHAI - Ye Shiwen has given to China the first gold medal in pool swimming at the world championships, winning the women's 200 metres individual medley in 2:08.90.

Another silver medal for Australian Alicia Coutts in 2:09.00 while bronze went to 2009 world champions US swimmer Ariana Kukors in 2:09.12.
