Top German swimmer Thomas Lurz and Swann Oberson of Switzerland have won the 5km gold medal at FINA world championships in Shanghai

SHANGHAI - Top German swimmer Thomas Lurz and Swann Oberson of Switzerland have won the 5km gold medal at FINA world championships in Shanghai today.

Oberson, 25, crossed the finish line at Jinshan City Beach in 1h00:39.7, edging Aurelie Muller of France by four-tenths of a second. Ashley Twichell of USA placed third just 0.5sec behind Oberson.

Lurz captured the men’s title and take a revenge on 10km world champion Gianniotis winning in 56:16.6, with the Greek swimmer 0.8s behind. Evgeny Drattsev of Russia placed a solid third in 56.18.5.
