Spyros Gianniotis of Greece won the men's 10km open water competition at the World Championships in Shanghai

SHANGHAI – With SwimNews. Spyros Gianniotis of Greece won the men's 10km open water competition at the World Championships at Jinshan City Beach on Wednesday.

In the final turn Gianniots led the race on the way to victory in 1h54:24.7 seconds, while defending world champion Thomas Lurz finished 2.5sec behind.

Third was Sergey Bolshakov of Russia (1h54:31.8).

Russia and Germany get two Olympic berth with Vladimir Dyatchin and Andreas Waschburger 9th and 10th respectively.

Also in the top 10 are: Alex Meyer (USA), Ky Hurst (AUS), Francisco Jose Hervas Jodar (ARG), Brian Ryckeman (BEL) and Julien Sauvage (FRA).

The 2010 world champion Valerio Cleri (ITA) and Tom Vangeneugden (BEL) was 11th and 12th and will fight again at an Olympic qualifier in Portugal next year.
