Russian Stanislav Donets broke the men's 100 metres backstroke European record at the World short-course championships in Dubai timing 48.95 seconds

DUBAI – Russian Stanislav Donets broke the men's 100 metres backstroke European record at the World short-course championships in Dubai on Sunday, timing 48.95 seconds on the first leg of the 4x100m medley relay, just 0.01 off the world record set by American Nick Thoman last year in Manchester.

Donet’s time bettered the Eruopean mark of 48.97sec that he shared with fellow-countryman Arkady Vyatchanin; both swimmers set the record last year at the European Championships.
