TOKYO – A couple of new Japan’s record have been set at the Arena World Cup in Tokyo.

Takeshi Matsuda swam the 200 metres butterfly in 1:50.64, the fastest ever in textile.

The previous Japan’s best was set by Hidemasa Sano in 1:50.97, while the previous best in textile was clocked to Frank Esposito when he set the world mark at 1:50.73 at Franch Interclubs in 2002.

The splits compared:

Matsuda: 24.91, 53.05, 1:21.34, 1:50.64
Esposito: 24.73, 52.79, 1:21.35, 1:50.73

In other highlights, Naoya Tomita set a national record for the men’s 200m breaststroke of 2:03.18, 0.62s inside Ryo Tateishi's 2009 mark and not far shy of the 2:02.92 textile world best of American Ed Moses from 2004.

Among the best women's efforts of the day was home favourite Haruka Ueda's 1:54.43 victory in the women's 200m free.

That effort lifted her to second on the early 2010-11/ s/c world rankings and placed her ahead of teammate Hanae Ito's 1:55.13, third place going to Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom, third in 1:55.52.
