Australia won five of eight titles at Commonwealth Games in the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Pool. Dunford gives Kenia the first win in the pool

DELHI – Australia won five of eight titles at Commonwealth Games in the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Pool on Wednesday.

Five new Games record were set.

England’s James Goddard won the men’s 200 metres backstroke title in 1:55.58 lowering the previous mark of 1:58.65 set by Gregor Tait of Scotland in Melbourne 2006.

Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa won the 100m breaststroke in 1:00.10 and Christian Sprenger was second in 1:00.29 (he was the previous Games record holder with 1:00.45).

Emily Seebohm easily won the 100m backstroke swimming in 59.79, lowering her previous Commonwealth Games record of 1:00.28 she set on Tuesday.

Australia won both 800m freestyle relays. The men’s team of Frase-Holmes, Ffrost, Napoleon and Monk set a new record of 7:10.29 while Palmer, Evans, Barratt and Nay, won the women’s event in a record time of 7:53.71.

Other winners of the day were Alicia Jayne Coutts of Australia in the 100 metres freestyle with 54.09.

England’s Ellen May Gandy won gold in the women’s 100m butterfly with 58.24.

Leisel Jones of Australia won the 200m breast in 2:25.38.

In the men’s event, Jason Dunford won gold in the 50m butterfly with 23.35, giving Kenia the first win in the pool.
Geoff Huegill was 2/100 of a second behind and Roland Schoeman was third in 23.44.
