New meeting venues for NZ Nationals, Commonwealth Games update, Italian swimmers stage sit-in

Swimming New Zealand has been forced to move the age group short-course national championships schduled in Christchurch from September 26-30, following the powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the country's South Island last September 3.

The championships, who will feature almost 1000 swimmers, will be held in Wellington on the same date.

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex which will host the incoming Commonwealth Games looks not ready.

Indian media who were invited to made and excursion this past weekend, reported of some troubles in the warmup area and several workers trying to fix loose tiles and repaint walls. Diving boards seemed to have some troubles also, since they are withouth skid coating.

Accidents occurred to the swimming complex on July.

Italian swimmers stage sit-in
Several athletes, including Olympic champion Federica Pellegrini, attended a protest yesterday against the closure sanctioned by the Prosecutor of the Acqua Aniene swimming club.

The club, is among those involved in the investigation for alleged illegal building practices, at the end of 2009 Worlds.

Giovanni Malago, president of the organizing committee for Roma 2009 and president of the Rowing Club Aniene is also under investigation.
