ROBERVAL – Germany’s Thomas Lurz won the men's 5km open water race at the world championships in Canada Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Lurz, who won both 5 and 10km title at last year’s Worlds in Rome, covered the Lac St-Jean course in 57 minutes, 42.63.
Evgeny Drattsev of Russia, also silver medallist in Sunday’s 10km contest, finished second in a time of 57:44.15 and American Francis Crippen touched third with 57:46.48.
