Italian Grimaldi wins women’s 10km world title

The 6th edition of the FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships in Lac St-Jean, opened with double medal for Italy with Grimaldi and Consiglio on top of the podium

ROBERVAL - The 6th edition of the FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships in Lac St-Jean, Canada, opened with double medal for Italy as Martina Grimaldi won the women's 10 kilometres in 2h05:45.2 and teammate Giorgia Consiglio took the silver medal in 2h05:57.4.

Third was Yanqiao Fang of China in 2h05:59.1.

The race was marred by a suits issue and two disqualified among swimmers who might have made the podium, including 5km world champ of 2009 Melissa Gorman (AUS).

Grimaldi won bronze at last year’s Worlds in Rome.
