The FINA Executive decided to temporarily suspend, applying the FINA Rule DC 8.3, to the long distance swimmers, David Meca Medina (ESP) and Igor Majcen (SLO) for positive doping tests for nandrolone, an anabolic androgenic steroid. The two tests were taken during the FINA Long Distance World Cup event, which took place on the 31st of January, 1999 in Salvador de Bahia (BRA).

At the 4th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Hong Kong (CHN), the swimmer Roberto Delgado (ECU) tested positive for the stimulant, pseudoephedrine.

The FINA Doping panel will hold a hearing for the three cases on June 14, 1999 in Lausanne (SUI).
